About the Artist
Traditional concepts of technique, design and spirit are the foundation
of paintings created by Bill Ternes. An affinity to see and interpret
his environment using brilliant, highly saturated hues and bold
brush strokes produce visual images that are suggested rather than
finely delineated. His paintings reflect a conceptual essence permitting
the viewer to play a pivotal role in the interpretative process.
The paintings of Homer, Sargent and Sorolla have significantly influenced
his painting philosophy.
Collected internationally by private and corporate patrons from
the Caribbean, Europe, North America and Japan, his work has received
major awards in national shows.
A popular teacher using a workshop format, he has conducted numerous
classes in the Caribbean, Europe and the United States.
Mr. Ternes holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin and Columbia
University. He resides with his wife, Pat, southwest of Boston.
His New England base coupled with overseas travel provides venues
of infinite plein-air painting opportunities.
